Cut the VAT Campaign

Join the campaign to cut VAT on all home repair, maintenance and improvement work

The VAT Consultancy is fully supporting the Cut the VAT Campaign, which argues that VAT on all home repair, maintenance and improvement work should be reduced from 20% to 5%. Independent research shows that this particular change to VAT rates would  bring about a number of significant advantages, which include stimulating economic growth, creating tens of thousands of jobs, improving the UK’s housing stock, encouraging spending on energy efficient home improvements and a dramatic reduction in the competitive advantage of cowboy builders. Information about how you can get involved in the campaign is available on the Cut the VAT website.

Please visit the website to sign the online petition and find out more about how you can help us to make an impact. You can also like the campaign on Facebook and share this link with your followers on Twitter.

Wide-reaching support for VAT reduction to improve the Green Deal

We are also supporting a joint statement calling on the Government to use VAT to incentivise consumer take up of the Green Deal. Twenty six organisations are backing the statement, which urges the Government to levy VAT at a rate of 5% for all Green Deal approved measures instead of at the higher 20% rate. The statement has been sent to MPs as they prepare to debate the final stages of the Energy Bill, which is the legislation that will introduce the Green Deal. The statement argues that a financially compelling package is needed for people to take action to improve the energy performance of their homes, and a consistent rate of 5% VAT is a logical step that will make energy efficiency measures more affordable and Green Deal packages more attractive.

All of the organisations involved believe that the Government must do more to stimulate further demand in the energy saving market in order for the Green Deal to be a success. Download the joint statement on VAT and the Green Deal here.
